Another RHO Down!

Honestly, I admire how much some of you guys are able to deal with. I am not sure I would have the patience/maturity to keep bringing it in and letting the dealer/RAM "fix" it. I have had 3-4 issues (I logged them in the spreadsheet) and none of them are as major as yours or others and I have already been shopping around to see what else is out there. I actually almost pulled the trigger on a '25 V8 F150 Tremor (marked down almost $11g) but someone scooped it up before I could finalize anything (I could be wrong but I actually think someone in my neighborhood grabbed it before me lol). The tremor is not nearly as appealing as the RHO but, from what I have read, seems like those trucks have had a lot less random issues compared to us. I just want a fucking truck I can drive around reliably and not have to worry about it not starting one morning or any of the other host of issues we have all seen now.

There is no doubt that this is a bad-ass truck - the look, the performance, the overall potential, and if there were fewer issues I'd easily say this is the best vehicle I have ever owned but the minor issues I have had, have really ruined the experience for me. Every day I am a little uneasy and unsure if the truck will start or if something will go wrong. I have no desire to drive it out of town with my family given the concern that I may be stranded with my wife and two little kids. My family goes up to Lake Placid every Thanksgiving and I was definitely planning on bringing this beast before all the issues but the thought of having the truck possibly fail on me when we are in a spot with no cell reception, in the middle of nowhere Adirondacks/high-peaks, no dealerships nearby - I can't risk it as, unfortunately, it is too high of a likelihood to occur. So, instead, we will continue to take the wife's car which has over 60k miles on it and is infinitely more reliable than my $80k off-roading truck. I hate feeling like I screwed up choosing the RAM RHO over a Ford Raptor. I hate feeling like I have been cheated/mislead by RAM and that they really don't care about the issues on their current top-of-the-line truck (maybe they do care but it sure doesn't seem that way). There is clearly a battery issue, why are they not getting ahead of this and offering a recall? Maybe there is a reason the RHOs are offered at a lower entry price-point compared to the Raptor? Maybe you really do get what you pay for? I know other vehicles have issues but ours seem so random and widespread with no real fix, whereas with others you at least know what you are getting into and that there is at least a fix for it.

Sorry for the long rant here, this whole experience has been such a mind-fuck for me. I got the truck to be able to take it places and go on adventures and family trips and now it will only ever take me around town where, if something does happen, I won't be putting myself or my family in a shitty situation.
Which reliability issues have you experienced with your truck?

Which reliability issues have you experienced with your truck?
1. The day after I purchased the truck, batteries were dead. Which is wild because I drove the truck 120 miles home and that was not enough to charge the battery up overnight. Brought it in, dealer said that they would just top them off and said they wouldn't replace unless they failed load test - I guess they passed and they never replaced.

2. Multiple (3-4 different times) occasions where my BSM or AEB simply disabled and wouldn't work. Usually would reset itself if I let the car sit for a while then restart. One time I will give it a pass as it was pretty heavy snow and could believe it would throw things off.

3. Most recently, with my kids in the car, the "D" on the dash started blinking and I had no power at the bottom of a hill and could not pull out into traffic, I switched to park and tried to go back to Drive but the shifter was locked. Powered the car off and on about 2-3 times and on the last time the car let me push the shifter to drive and I was able to drive away like nothing happened.

Since this last issue, ironically, I have been looking at different trucks and have not had any serious issues (other than the BSM light on the mirror going on and off in the rain). It has been almost 600 miles with no problems. Its like RAM is listening and knows I am at my wits end and now the truck seems to be working. I have also had like 3-4 updates since owning it while others have only had a few or none at all.

Jeesh yeah that's terrible..I remember reading some of these but forgot it was you.

Don't blame you one bit. I still don't understand how the same vehicles coming off the same lines can sometimes be duds and sometimes be completely fine with no rhyme or reason.

Here is the thing, I do understand how tolerance stack-ups can come into play and have one unit be fine but the next isn't. My company manufactures DC motors for industrial machinery. We genuinely try to be a good vendor and do what is right for our customers but sometimes shit happens, faulty sub-components, semi-conductor components can have infant failures, shit can get jostled during shipping, customers can misuse the products, connectors can break, grounds can be intermittent for one reason or another. The difference is (and I realize it is a different industry etc) we will do whatever we can to try and make it right. RAM doesn't give a shit, they got theirs already, they made their bottom line so the rest of us can pound sand.

As an example, we will try to respond to customers on social media that have issues. We monitor forums like this and if someone has a problem we will respond and try to help. How come RAM/Stellantis, who has way more money and resources, doesn't have anyone monitoring or responding to threads...even to simply maintain relations and let their customers know that they are aware and care enough to pay attention and respond. Who knows, maybe they even log enough issues that they are able to more accurately and quickly fix their issues.

Don’t fret. I saw Ram won the award for best in initial quality. Should be good to go!

Jokes aside, these are real concerns and I’m in a similar situation with 3 kids and the RHO is my daily driver. I’m just past break-in now and so far nothing major but reading these threads will make you believe it’s a ticking time bomb. May be… guess we’ll see.

I’ll also say that reading most any forums on any product will expose flaws and customer complaints. Not trying to be a jerk because I have similar concerns… but find me a truck that doesn’t have failures reported. There’s really just no way of knowing on a new purchase.

My last Ram was flawless until 58k miles, and that’s when it left me stranded when it blew an intake and exhaust spring. I got that fixed with much frustration, and never had another problem for the remaining 40k miles of ownership.

Maybe ignorance truly is bliss.

You definitely bring up a lot of good points. I guess I am mostly sad because this is the first vehicle I have had with so many issues. And before anyone says it, yes I have bought first year models in the past and didn't have a single issue during my ownership. It also hurts because I genuinely mean it when I say that this would be, hands down, the best vehicle I have ever owned if it were not for the number of issues and now concerns that I can't drive it far from home. Which is so stupid because the whole point was to get a truck to take on trips and go wherever we want.

I think my issue is that I do see this as a ticking time bomb...fairly or unfairly, that is how I see it and because of that I don't trust it farther than I can throw it.

As a side note, I am starting to see low-mileage used RHOs for sale...could mean nothing or could be people starting to jump ship because of the number of issues.

Update....They replaced the wiring harness to the fuel pump today. They drove it for a bit then the blind spot monitoring on the mirrors stayed on. This happened to me the first time it broke down on the highway. don't know what to do with this truck at this point. Now it's at 1,600 miles:unsure:
Do they know the fix for the blind spot monitoring light staying on? Mine just did this at 500 miles

We are in almost exactly in the same boat.

I wanted to trust my 3rd Ram. After spending over 30 days in the shop, I asked my service advisor if the truck can be trusted on an upcoming, family trip. After advising me about the Fiat electrical system (because Fiat is known for reliability…ha!), he said, “Well just remember, if you park it & the modules don’t shut down, the truck will probably not re-start.” What???

I too have been looking at replacement options. Ford and GM gas trucks are also having electronics issues. I did look at the new Hummer EV. After some early teething issues, owners are reporting excellent experiences with those trucks, despite their needlessly complex battery packs. It was fun to drive with an interesting driving position, reminiscent of the original military Humvee.

And to my surprise, GM’s lease guide states those trucks should hold almost 70% of their MSRP after 3 years & 45K miles. Considering they discount almost 10% without asking, that’s not a bad deal!

I’m not a lease guy (hate payments), but it gives me some faith that my EV investment won’t collapse upon driving it off the dealer lot, like some brands.

Haven’t committed to anything yet. Will continue to follow your plight with great interest.

After the last incident with my kids in the truck, I was quite literally ready to sell it at whatever loss was necessary and move on. My wife talked me off the ledge and suggested we wait and see if anything else major happens. If/when it does, we would then move on.

However, I can't say I have a ton of faith in other new trucks right now. It would be between a F-150 tremor or Tundra TRD pro, with me leaning towards the Toyota given it seems to have the least amount of issues. I would not be able to swing getting into a new raptor given the hit I'd take with trading in the RHO, which would be sad but at this point, I just want a reliable ride.

All that fucking said, I have not had a single issue over the last 600+ miles on the truck, which is the longest I have driven with no problems. And, to be fair, my issues are not nearly as bad as many (including yours), mainly BSM/AEB/ACC not working 3-4 different times over the course of 1500 miles, which could easily be a battery thing, so I hate to be a whiny little bitch when others have it worse. Maybe if I can get a couple thousand miles on it with no issues I might feel more at ease but so far I pretty much look at the dash every time I turn the truck on to see if it throws an error 🫠

Latest Update....It's now been at the dealership for over 2 weeks. Picked up a week ago on a Friday and the same thing dove it home and the CEL came on again turned around and took it back. The same code again...P26EA fuel module. My temp tags have expired while in the shop...... Multiple times in the shop, towed in twice. They said they were waiting on a engineer from Ram to look at it and could not even tell me if they looked at it yet or not. I now have a case opened with Ram for a replacement Truck....We will see how that goes.

Need some help here........I'm really feeling bad about this purchase....... tomorrow will be 3 weeks just this time, in the shop plus another week and a half when the said they fixed it before. I traded in a 22 Ram Limited Anniversary Edition with several modifications. I loved that truck! I should have kept it........Knowing what I know now. :mad:Ram's Retention Team is now is involved with their engineers. No real update, besides that. It would be better if they just replaced the truck. Being a loyal Ram Customer, 7 Ram trucks so far. Thank for listening, I guess I just needed to vent to my people who also love this truck!

Try to keep it up. I'm sure it gets to be very frustrating and disappointing. Loyalty works only one way these days. I do hope they just give you a new truck and throw this one in a black hole. Good luck mate.

Be careful what you wish for…

Someone on this forum reported getting a new RHO from Ram after extensive issues with their 1st truck.

Last I heard, at around 500miles, the new truck is in the shop waiting for backordered parts. Sux.

After 800 trouble-free miles since its last service visit, I chanced a long trip with my RHO. I must say, it’s a great vehicle. Comfortable, capable, lots & lots of useful features. Alas, I got the blinking odometer on the way home!

If Ram could just figure out a fix for these wonky electronics, RHO would be a winner! I know others have reported other major issues, such as CATS & trannies, but they seem to be the minority.

Completely agree with you. This truck could be a winner. I also did a long drive from Knoxville TN to Miami. It took me 16 hours but no pains or other aches in the old body. The truck fits like a glove, very comfortable and no issues. Two weeks after I got back the truck started doing funny.

Two bad trucks?? Damn.

Have you tried charging your batteries on a trickle charger? I wonder if it is low battery.

That was I, new vehicle is still waiting for a water pump which is on indefinite back order. Other parts have an eta of 6/15, which means it’ll be at least a month and a half before I could possibly get it back.

2 bad employee ordered trucks, even worse

Hang in there, you'll get a new truck out of it. Thanks for all the updates. I have 2k miles on mine without a single issue other than some random instruments cluster warnings that go away after a on/off cycle. So there are good RHO trucks out there. Its one of the risks we take buying new generation trucks.
Still love the truck even though it has its bugs. Here's a picture of mine where I just put on some Eibachs.

Have you tried charging your batteries on a trickle charger? I wonder if it is low battery.
It is funny, I parked the truck for 5 days and the volt was at 13.2. After the 5 days it went straight to 14.1 on start up. And that’s where it’s been hovering.

There was another weird thing yesterday. I parked the truck and turned off the ignition. While still in the truck I had to send a few text messages. After a few minutes, I heard that weird clicking again. The same as when the battery died. I put my foot on the brake pedal to start the truck but the pedal was just stuck in place, unable to move it. Released the brake pedal and turned on the ignition. Now the brake pedal felt normal again, not completely stiff.

This truck is like a woman, if you think you got it figured out…
