that, unfortunately, i cannot answer. I'm not sure of the power system sequencing/logic in this truck. Wish we had a mopar tech on here that could help answer those questions.
No worries dude and I appreciate all the input you have provided so far. That said, I called three different dealerships and asked the same questions (trying to do God's work here). Two of them are local (one has a really excellent reputation, the other is one I have been going to and they have done right by me, and the third is the dealership I bought it from) :
1. All three dealers said the exact same thing (almost verbatim). They said 11v on the battery at startup is PERFECTLY normal! They went as far as to say even if it is below 11v the car will start fine (he even said at 10.5v he'd expect there would be no issues). Looking at the battery level, with the engine off, will put a higher load on the battery and it is not uncommon for it to drop the battery level. I didn't verify if it is only looking at the main battery but I am about 99% positive it is, given when the car starts I can see the voltage drop a bit, which makes sense as it is cycling the starter.
2. They said the biggest concern is that the car hits 14+v when the engine/alternator is doing its thing and that it holds that level under load as well as the battery is able to charge some after driving for a bit (which I believe I have verified mine does).
3. Weather will absolutely affect the battery level. When I measured 11.1v, it was in the morning and it was around 20F. The next day it was 11.9v/12v when it was 40F I believe.
4. Replacing the batteries ourselves will NOT void our warranty...but obviously we have to pay out of pocket and if the "autozone" batteries fail, it is not covered (obviously).
5. They did say it could be a parasitic draw but, after almost two months of ownership, the tech said if the problem was that bad I would have likely had the battery die again (which seems consistent with others who definitely have had this issue).
6. The tech at the dealer I bought it from said the most likely situation (for me) is that the truck sat for almost 60 days before I bought it. They likely didn't juice the batteries during that time. When I got home, he figured it was not fully charged and ended up dying. When I took it to my local dealer, they supercharged those bitches, they passed, and I have had no noticeable battery issues since.
7. I mentioned that any other car I have had sits at 12+v and the dealers all said with these batteries, the trucks themselves and their power consumption, that 11v is, again, perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
8. My personal belief is that the batteries will work fine for now but they are not going to last long and I will likely be dealing with replacements sooner than normal. I will not be surprised if I let the truck sit for 3+ days the batteries may be dead. If/when that happens I now have three dealers I can call and bitch at lol.
I personally feel a lot better about the situation and plan to sit tight for now. But, Christ, I need a drink and a smoke tonight after all the worrying this truck has caused me. Someone please remind me to get a honda civic as my next car. /s
