Exhaust With High Flow PSP Downpipes

X pipe will cut out lower frequencies and alloy the raspy higher frequencies. H pipe will cancel high raspy frequencies and allow lower frequencies deeper tone and better low end torque.

Muffled xpipe on mine made rasp non existent and deepened the tone significantly.

Our twin turbo motors are like two 3 cyl motors tied together. Two separate but integrated 3 cylinder manifolds two turbos each with their own exhaust. It is highly unlikely both turbos will be balanced. this is where the H pipe comes in to balance the back pressure. With out it acoustically it’s like listening to a cat fight. Placement ideally needs to be at the point where the exhaust gasses stop accelerating due to thermal expansion and just start slowing. On our trucks this where the two exhaust split their path. One side is running across the trans pan and the other side is next to the transmission. Obviously they can’t put it there. So they placed it just after where the exhaust pipes come back together and are running parallel again. (Hopefully now the cats stop fighting and start purring together.)

I ended up swapping my factory H pipe for the X pipe yesterday. I would record a video for the sound bite, but it sounds similar. If not, barely different. I would say there’s a touch more raspiness in the middle of the RPM band, but not by much. The cold starts are a bit tamer and the drone went from a three out of 10 to maybe a 2 1/2 out of 10 not much difference. I will say that the power band does feel much smoother across the board and feels stronger on the high end. So if anyone’s curious, I have the stock exhaust behind the down Pipes with a X instead of a H, valves removed, and four stainless browse resonators added to the system.

I could be wrong, but that looks more like a D pipe. A variant of the X pipe. I was wondering how that would work. Now we know.

Cold start a little closer to the tail pipe. Stock into MRT trail rated pipe, Borla pro xs mufflers, into MRT trail rated pipe, then all stock.
