Curious how well does the hands free driving work on the RHO?

As reported on various YouTube videos, it tends to favor the left side of the lane. Enough so, that I don’t use it unless on a very empty highway.

It’s years behind Tesla FSD…which fascinating, amazing & still dangerous, IMHO.

The only gripe I have with it is even staring straight ahead it wants me to put my hands on the wheel every few seconds.

I won't ever use it (especially driving in Houston) but I do like to try it when the wife is in, just to freak her out every so often (just celebrated 25 years so I am running out of ideas to try)

Are you sure you're using it right? I've had no such issue. I can go hands free until I reach an unsupported road.

I'm not sure of the wrong way to use it.

The handful of times I have tried I am on the freeway without much traffic, I activate it and the dash lights turn green, I stare straight ahead and within a few seconds it's asking me to put my hands on the wheel.

I understand if you are looking away it'll ask you to touch the wheel, but I have been very focused on the road and see the message. NBD as I'll rarely use it anyway

I've driven about 100 miles hands free. It favors L a bit but only occasionally. Overall does a good job. It's taking me a while to get used to it, but I'm pleased currently. I don't have any other vehicles to compare it to, however.

Used the system 3-4 times now on major highways and while it is a cool feature it does not leave me feeling comfortable. It rides the line way too much and seems to over correct and ping pong between the lines to the point that I feel like the people behind me must think I am drunk. Not sure if some roads are mapped better than others but the system stays green the entire time?

That sounds like driving assist not hands free. Does it go green on the sides and show the hands off the wheel and notify you hands free is available? Also are you making sure your sensors are good and clean?

I have about 1000 miles of hands free out of the 2500 miles I have on the truck. I love it. I does hug one side or the other sometimes but If I'm next to another vehicle and it's hugging close I just nudge it over. It's fantastic on long trips and greatly reduces fatigue.

While using the hands free system. It displaying green doesn't mean hands free! The indicator in the lower R/H side will show hands off the steering wheel. Not all highways will allow the hands free to function. Most Interstates are good but local Highways generally are not. Mine works flawlessly! And my opinion it's better than my wife's Tesla system.

It’s not perfect but I am using it all the time. It has a tendency of floating but I keep my hands close to the wheel, but it has not failed me yet.

Really? Autosteer Beta (not talking FSD V13, which is a whole different playing field) in my wife’s 2024 Tesla is light years ahead of the Ram system, IMHO.

Due to “ping ponging” or “floating” within the lane, my Ram system is barely usable. I guess if I were accustomed to driving a vehicle with loose steering or worn suspension components, I’d be OK with it.

Thanks and, yep, I have figured that out since I made that post last year ;)

Brought this thread back to life yesterday after having some chances to use the hands free. On an open road I like it and works decent enough but on a tight highway with cars on either side my anxiety is off the charts with the hugging lines and ping ponging. Every time it understeers a corner and it float's to the left it rapidly moves to the right line. People either think I can't drive or I am playing on my phone.

It works fine, but nothing like how a Tesla works, including the Cybertruck. It basically works like an autistic version of Autopilot, doesn't hold lanes as well and seems pretty dumb when it comes to predicting curves in the road, which makes you less confident using it. Good for nice and straight highways.

My first vehicle with it, so I can't compare it to anything. It's pretty impressive as far as I'm concerned... however I can only have so many diamonds made in my butt... so I use it sparingly
