Is the RHO too wide ?

So was 98% sold on the RHO yesterday and ready to order - but decided to go and test one with the Mrs at a local dealer to be certain and get her take.

Well - sadly it did not go well.

Dealer - who is not one I have been to before but up the street from where we were going for lunch and both convenient and responsive to my inquires for a demo was a fairly chaotically packed small lot. I mean literally no place to park/move on their lot with cars just packed in as tight as possible. Not a great way to experience a vehicle, especially a larger truck. To make matters much worse - this truck had issues. Paint issues, poor fitting moldings and some sloppy fitting interior pieces - just very basic things that should never have left the factory and certainly should have been corrected by the dealer prior to putting it on the lot. Did not make a good impression on the Mrs and she was far from impressed - actually I was kind of left questioning the QC as well and considering the investment involved in a new truck - made me question ordering something for a minute as the inevitable "what if it happens to me" popped in my head knowing returning to the selling dealer wouldn't be an option and lemon law buybacks are a rough road.

But the one thing that really struck me was the size difference in width. Technically it's 6" wider than a 1500 - but seems so much more. Of course we were not side by side with a 1500 and the cramped lot made it seem so much more. Is it really that much more difficult to park/maneuver around ?

Wife is pushing me to get a Rebel..I am not against it, just feels like for the slight price difference between a loaded up Rebel and the RHO - the RHO has an advantage of being more unique and likely holding resale advantage. Wife also thinks I should look at a Tacoma - to which I have said a firm no - yes they are sporty looking, but the cab is just way too damn uncomfortable and to me its a young (and skinny) mans truck. I am by no means ready to settle into a full on luxury SUV posing as a truck - but I still want a few of the luxuries while maintaining the sporty/off-road appearance.

Guess I check out a Rebel and possibly another RHO at another dealer - preferably one with a lot where I can test things a little more. This was far from a great place to test and the clunking sound going into drive was far from re-assuring on this one.
6" isnt really that much. 3" on each side. I just cant justify going with the Rebel for like $3k less. Everything you get on the RHO base is well worth more than the price difference. 35s, shocks, look, and most importantly, the engine. 540hp plus all the goodies for $3k-$5k more. No brainer.

Too wide? It fits in a typical suburban garage with a Tahoe!

The width is what sold me! Gotta have the hood lights lol.

I don't notice any issue at all, other than a NON RHO just looks anorexic :)

When I bought mine, I went to buy a White Tungsten. I drove it, and man, it was smooth. Really a nice riding truck.

Then I saw the Canyon Lake RHO and was like oh boy.. I drove it, and though the Tungsten was definitely a silky smooth ride, the RHO just kept calling me.

I parked them side by side, and the RHO just looked bad a**, and that was all she wrote.

Don't worry about the width. Worry about the regret every time you see an RHO go by while you're driving the Rebel :)

Truer words have never been spoken.

Depends - figure the shipping is about 2 grand. That's not an unreasonable figure for dealer to make up locally.

I know Performance has a presence out there and is making deals.

My honest experience across many brands is Central Ohio is pretty damn competitive - especially if you get out of Franklin County and go towards Marion or Marysville. The relatively low max admin fee helps too ($398 now isn't it -used to be $250) - compare to the $1k id routinely see in NC from a Hendricks dealership.

Not saying Mark Dodge is a bad place to buy from or doesnt deliver a great experience. Just a reminder that shopping local can yield as good of savings - if not better with the same level of convenience and the benefit of supporting local business. There are plenty of areas of the country where buying from them or another high volume internet dealer is a good idea.
I agree with you, and a fellow Budkeye!!
Here's another thing to consider: what if your truck is damaged when it arrives or has a total shit paint job? Read the forums, it happens a lot. I'm also in central Ohio, and ordered local. Sure, I could have saved by ordering out of town. But I wanted the ability to see the truck before I buy it. If I didn't like what I saw, I wouldn't have bought it. Worst case scenario is that I lose my $500 deposit. That's a risk I was willing to take. When my truck came in I looked it over for at least 45 min to make sure all was good. The only issue was a slightly off center tailgate that was easily corrected. I know, I was lucky. But read through old posts and see all the paint issues other owners have had. Imagine a transport company dropping your truck off only to be disappointed with it. To me, the savings was absolutely not worth it. Or you fly down to Mark Dodge only to not be happy with your truck. Now you're either getting a flight back home, or driving a truck you're not totally happy with back home. YMMV. Also, there was an old post about a tranport company crossing under a highway overpass that was too low for the tailored RHO. It literally took the top off. I know everyone is insured for stuff like this. But again, a risk I was not willing to take.
I'm happy to share the dealer I ordered from if you want to PM me. The discount they offered was about half the discount offered by some of these large, out of town dealers. I was happy with that. I know "to each his own", but personally I wouldn't buy a truck of this caliber sight unseen.
I'm not knocking the guys who ordered from Mark Dodge, etc. If they're happy with their transaction, that's awesome. They came out ahead, saved more than I did and that really is a great thing. Who doesn't like to save money?! But it also is a bit of a gamble, and with this truck it was a gamble I was not willing to take.

Ahahahaha you think that’s accurate??? It’s a bait for big truck small pp idiots. Congrats, you are my first catch

If that were true, why would you be defending it so hard? Men who are actually secure in their masculinity would own that scooter and not make a big rebuttal post over a minor joke like you just did. Methinks thou doth protest too loudly.

Just traded in my 2025 Limited on a RHO and have a similar opinion. The Limited ride was much smoother but the exterior appearance of the RHO won me over. If anyone has any ideas on how to tamper down the sway (esp on cornering) in the RHO I'd like to hear.

The width makes the statement that you are driving a badass truck 🚚

Ok - so after checking then out again today I can confidently say I would be fine in a RHO and that my wife is clearly biased.

Went out to look at an RHO and a Raptor by myself. Came back and the wife is pushing the Raptor on me - asked why...because its more practical and not oversized like the Ram (?!?).

Try to explain to her they are near equal (yes the Ram is an inch plus wider and a couple taller) - but thats not something most people would notice driving. She swears it seems more like 6 inches on both counts.

Told her to Google it - she now thinks I have manipulated Google somehow.

I am actually going to look at the Raptor - not solely because of her, but because of my quest to spend the least and obviously with more vehicles out there - finding a Ford at a lower price is easier (as could go a low miles 2023 or 2024). Still think the Ram interior is nicer and stronger build - but I'll consider both. Finding a RHO between 65-70 is certainly doable, but finding a Raptor for 60 and tossing 5k in mods is also an option. Just sucks buying a used Ram online as there were some issues out there.

I'm biased, as I just bought an RHO, but I looked at the Raptor too. The Raptor needs an update. The interior isn't as nice. Compared to the RHO, it looks cheap inside. It's slower as well. The RHO also has hands-free on the highway. I had that on my Rivian, and it is a feature I find important for road trips. I'll be driving 7 hours tomorrow to pick it up at the dealer tomorrow and will use that hands-free on the way back.

Agree on the interiors - Ram is better. Not sure Id say an update - coming from a 2021 Toyota the Ford IS updated - and on par with GM...Just not as nice as Ram.

The hands free holds value to some people - not to me - irregardless both have it now in some form.

Ram does have better acceleration - but just like the R series/TRX - how many times do you use that extra power ? Both are reasonably speedy compared to most passenger vehicles. Its one of those features i consider nice to have - but not a selling point i would spend 5k+ for - or.in the case of an R or TRX more like 50k.

Interior and ride feel are the things you use daily - exterior is a nice to have. As I score it Ram wins the first - is narrowly winning the 2nd and narrowly losing the 3rd - but all 3 are personal preference.

Huh?

Looks = RAM hands down
Interior = RAM hands down
Performance = Seriously? RAM walks the Raptor like an old 96 F150
