Moving to TRX? Daily driver? Remember Tim’s words…

Go install your tuner, grumpy.

See! Only on this forum would being pissy about not being able to get within a literal entire half second of a claimed 0-60 time be considered "grumpy".

I swear this place has Stockholm syndrome sometimes with the way ppl vehemently defend Ram and their lies.

On the TRX forums, they'd probably burn the headquarters down for something like that 🤣.

Here everyone's just like "🤷🏻 durr whatever it's still quick"

With that being said, tuner goes on this weekend! I'll finally be a happy camper, since I'll actually be able to hit the stock 0-60 time 😎.

Ohio to Myrtle Beach, I like to run around 10 - 15 mph above posted speed limits and get around 13.8mpg on average...I always use to think if Gas Prices hit $5 p/gal that Big Engine vehicle sales would suffer...Clearly not the case...Currently here in wet Ohio its ~$3.05...and i've tried the Launch Control over and over, best I can get out of my RHO with around 10 gals of fuel in the tank is 4.9 seconds

To be clear, I’m not defending Ram. I was jokingly encouraging you to do some work. My friend only installed his tuner to get back what he lost after lifting and going with 37s. He’s not racing it around town but does enjoy the occasional launch. For me personally, I enjoy the RHO enough that it has me interested in the TRX. I’ve really enjoyed the look and interior of the Ram product. A little extra growl never hurts.

Don't worry, I know you were only kidding! I am too when I go on my rants. It's all light hearted and in good fun. I'm never actually aggravated or anything- it's just my personality to get wound up. I'm a very sarcastic person.

Except the most talked about topic is mpg and “CaN I rUn 87” so people do buy these and then complain about the mpg. And it’s me, I’m people. 😂
haha I hear you...I run 87 all the time in my past TRX, Braptor, and RHO. I only run 91+ when towing or off road. Rocky Rohde told me he had like 20k miles of 87 octane on his last RHO and no issues.

Not to you specifically- but to anyone in general who runs 87:

Why do you guys do this? Genuine question.

Clearly it's not a money thing. I think it's safe to say anyone here can comfortably afford 93 (or 91) octane gasoline.

Why purposely run your engine on the wrong gas so that it has to pull timing and do all kinds of other weird shit resulting in reduced power (and worse MPG)?

I can't, for the life of me, think of a single reason to do this.

Have you been datalogging the differences between 87 and 91+?

For me 90% of the time I am driving the truck like a grandpa and not making enough boost that the 91octane is even coming into play. I fill up every week, saves me $30+ a fill up. at that rate I am saving $1500 a year in just the cost delta from 87-91. Can I afford it, for sure, but seems wastefull to me. We put 90k miles on our Navigator that had the HO 3.5l and never ran 91 in it, no issues. My brother has a 17 and 18 raptor both with 120 and 140k miles. Never one tank of 91 octane. all of these high boosted engines to hit peak HP numbers you would need to run 91+ octane. These are trucks at the end of the day, Ram has to make it work for dumb people like me! If it was a viper/911/Z06 I would only run 91+ because whats the point of having them if your not pushing it. I ran a 0-60 with 87 octane and my son in car seat with hunting gear in bed of truck and did 0-60 in 4.7 seconds...the motor will pull timing and even in 87 octane it would still whip on my Raptor 3.5l. I have never noticed anything weird or any difference in fuel economy when I do 87 vs 91. but we have a big 1500 mile road trip coming up and I plan to do a 91 vs 87 octane comparison again and see if we can see a difference.

I am not recommending people to run 87 octane in an RHO. Run what the manufacture recommends in the manual.

My wife has a Navigator, and the user’s manual specifies 87. As far as I know, there’s only one engine option (the 3.5L twin turbo V6 with 440-450 HP). What is this HO option you had?

My Kawasakizx12r runs on 93...If I put 87, it becomes very evident that it doesn't like the 87 fuel...It pinks and needs more rpm to launch smoothly...Once at cruising speed, hard to tell differences...RHO 3 liter engine with twin Turbos is a highly tuned race engine...why on earth would you compromise its performance...pre-detonation stresses pistons and bearings irrespective of electronic wizardry over time...I foresee spark plug life being reduced...Sorry, but I think Ram knows best on this one...

This is my logic.

Ram doesn't sell gasoline- there's zero financial incentive for them to lie about the octane required in an an engine.

There is, on the other hand, financial incentive for them to make the engines last at least 100k

I think some guys logic is this. Why run high octane when I’m keeping the truck less than 3 years. After that trucks not my problem.

I’ll be keeping mine for 10 plus years. So 93 for my RHO!

Might as well stretch your oil changes to 15k too.
