THAT could actually the final nail in the coffin that gets me the green light from my accountant to retire early! 60 miles a day commute @ $8/gal in a truck that gets (for me) roughly 12 mpg.....that makes my salary almost not worth the commute....just another excuse for me to stay home.If gas gets too expensive I'll just have to retire from work. That should reduce the amount of miles I have to drive, therefore saving me gas money![]()
2012 Equinox for me. Definitely not as enjoyable to drive....but desperate times.....If gas price is $8/gal, the MPG will be the least thing I would worry about.
After conversion to local currency, 8USD per gallon = 7.76AED per liter, currently I pay 2.5AED per liter, this would be a crazy price to pay, especially when my fuel cost per month is around 500USD as it is, so 1500USD fuel cost per month is crazy. Since our currency is pegged to the dollar, and consequently the country's main export (oil), I do regret it if it'll be like that. However, most of the cars here (mainly Nissan patrol or your Nissan Armadas) are roughly the same on fuel, the entire economy is impacted but oil and gas is government owned, so I can expect a price ceiling of around 4-5USD per gallon locally.
Same situation as @Eric (long commute for work daily, every day with WFH is great), heavily agreed with that @AFX (people who buy super cars or sports or sports trucks don't or shouldn't care if fuel is 1 or 10 dollars a gallon), and I agree with you on the oil pipeline being reopened/renegotiated for your domestic market. The USA is the largest holder of crude oil after all and the world's largest importer of goods, so they will subsidize fuel *to a certain extent, pushing brunt of the prices on areas where it is normalized (guessing Cali by the threads comments), with other areas following suit depending on how long this goes on. But hey, inflation, gold re eval (can wipe 12.8T USD roughly of debt out), currency depreciation (after gold re eval, what's yesterdays dollar worth compared to todays *hint much less), debt crisis solved, thats my theory.
Just for reference for some of you guys, in Switzerland (already an expensive place) fuel has been at 8USD± / gallon for a long time even prior to this, people there are fine. In terms of adjusted for inflation and PPP (purchasing power parity) and tax, the US' average owner of an RHO can cruise through it just fine unless you're planning on doing 30k+ miles this year. Then it'll be an issueNot to mention, most owners of an 80k+ sports/offroad truck usually have a second vehicle (with better mileage) or a commute option.
My wife's company vehicle (2025 Grand Wagoneer) is the only reason I DO have this truck! We only have to pay to drive one Hurricane motor. My truck (picked up 1/2/25) hasnt even hit 4000 miles. Company car and gas for the win.
18 MPG? Cool. Your commute must be a steep downhill in both directions! At 18 mpg this truck is my economy car ! Plus the damn thing makes me smile every time I climb in it. I drive in the auto mode most often but when the road opens up and there’s some turns sport is just to hard to resist.
I’m old enough to remember the 1st oil crisis in US history. 1973. The former OPEC turned off the faucet. Gas went from $.25/gallon to $.85/gallon in short order. Yes, it came back down after some oil price negotiation & the faucet re-opened. But the days of $.25/gallon gas were mostly gone.
Fast forward to 2026, and we could theoretically see $8+/gallon premium by Summer. I believe some areas of CA are already seeing it.
I wonder if that will hinder TRX sales once the order books open?
NO POLITICS, PLEASE!!!
Yup, my Harley Road Glide is always in the garage waiting for a reason to be ridden. I would use the bike a lot more if gas prices climb that high.Plan B is in effect...Dodge Caravan (dog mobile)!
Anyone who can afford a 90K truck should be able to have an economical beater ready to go.
Hahahah yes contrary to popular beliefwait, you PAY for gas in emirates?![]()
Not in Denton/Corinth it's not. I only go to RaceTrac because I use Upside and get like $.15/gal cash back. Sometimes I get closer to $.35/gal. I mean I'm not hurting for money but damn....my daily commute to Dallas and back is starting to make my salary seem like a lot less money.....I went to my local Costco to fill up before the off road event tomorrow and this was the first time I hit the limit. The pump stopped at $100 and I only got 24.44 gallons of 93. Luckily gas is still relatively cheap here in Texas, $4.09 a gallon for 93.
Hold on, so Upside is a real thing? I thought it was another gimmicky app.Not in Denton/Corinth it's not. I only go to RaceTrac because I use Upside and get like $.15/gal cash back.
