With premium gas potentially hitting $8+/gallon by Summer, is anyone regretting buying a 14 mpg pseudo Baja truck? No politics, please!

I’m old enough to remember the 1st oil crisis in US history. 1973. The former OPEC turned off the faucet. Gas went from $.25/gallon to $.85/gallon in short order. Yes, it came back down after some oil price negotiation & the faucet re-opened. But the days of $.25/gallon gas were mostly gone.

Fast forward to 2026, and we could theoretically see $8+/gallon premium by Summer. I believe some areas of CA are already seeing it.

I wonder if that will hinder TRX sales once the order books open?

NO POLITICS, PLEASE!!!
The gas mileage has nothing to do with why I would regret buying this truck. The only regrets I have or have had relates to electrical gremlins that caused me concern.

Nope not at all market rise and fall and this ain't my daily driver.

If we (outside of California) would actually to get to $8/gal gas, there are a lot of other things to worry about. All of which concern me more than $8 gas

Right!!!...I am willing to start a Civil War if I have to pay 15 dollars for a Taco!🤣

Hold on, so Upside is a real thing? I thought it was another gimmicky app.

I fill up at the Costco off the 121 in Allen.

Yeah, I hear you on that. If prices continue to go up, I'll be that RHO hypermiling at 60mph haha.

The current prices are were making me second guess if I should go to the event tomorrow. But I paid for it prior to us opening a can of whoop a**, so I have to go.
Yeah Upside is a pretty decent thing if you remember to use it. Since I've started using it I usually fill up at the same gas station, which 95% of the time works out because I drive my truck mainly to/from work. It's good for other things, too....certain restaurants, etc. You just have to remember to look at it when you go places to see if they're on the app and what the procedures are for claiming whatever their offer is (cashback, etc.). Then you can either cash it out for actual money or several different gift cards, etc.

Here’s mine currently

MN will be interesting....gas was high during COVID, but people were not going into work. They stayed home or went to their cabins and never came back. Gas was high but not an issue.

Now it is different, companies have called people back to the office, thus the 3 hr plus trips to cabins happen weekly where they can then fill their boats and jet skies as well.

Never seems like people run out of money, but with coffers low this time around...just have to wait and see.

As for me, I don't like it also nothing I can do about it, but the Triumph will be a good option to limit the exposure when weather permits. 😎

We will see soon enough who could afford this truck and those that over extended their credit.

91 is between $4-$5 in NM right now. Thankfully this thing gets way better range than the TRX. Black Betty would show 330mi at full up 😭

This showed 445 and went up for the first hour of driving before it started decreasing.

You either own it or you were just pretending.

It’s hard to complain about the gas when you have the power when needed or wanted. I might not lay into the turbos as much with higher prices but I definitely wouldn’t consider a trade the HO for the SO. Nor would I buy a SO over a HO if I had to make the choice again.

I love the RHO with the HO.

You must live in California.

Got to enjoy the truck. One weird thing I like is that the gas tank is pretty big so I don't go to the station that often, so I don't FEEL like I'm spending a lot on gas due to the long times between fill ups. But when I do get gas, I just fill up, and don't look at the final price. Pay off CC every month so the actual gas cost gets jumbled in with all the other spending. What can you do.
Agreed. If you bought the truck I don't think you're worried about gas, this too shall pass.

My RHO hasn't arrived yet. However I have an 08 JK and that definitely doesn't get good mileage. I have have an 07 F150, and an 22 ST Explorer, 2 4Runners, and a few other old small cars like a Honda Accord. I don't drive the smaller cars. I live in Southern California. Getting a break on our roads just isn't going to be a thing. I also want to be safe by having enough around me. I have been driving since I was 16. (some while ago) I love every single car and truck and Jeep I've had. Sometimes I sit in traffic for hours. Others times I am on dirt roads having a blast. I have to love what I drive.... I can't wait for my truck to get here. I agree with what others said above. If you can't afford gas you may need to look for something else to drive. I do know this woman will never drive electric unless I need to drive someone else somewhere in their car. That's just me. I also make a habit of not going below half on my tank. Happy trucking !

Fortunately I won't be seeing a difference. My current truck only gets about 12 mpg and I've always used premium. Only major difference will be fuel tank size. The RHO has a much bigger tank

Just got back from Australia where I was paying $7.83/gallon (US dollars) for diesel. The gas station owners are dealing with death threats and vandalism.
