Exhaust Options

You have any drive by or cab videos, Mikey?

I still think this approach makes most sense. The major sound optimization is coming from this section of the exhaust. The remaining $1000 is replacing 3” tubing with 3” tubing.

Also, I would LOVE for someone to come out with an electronic valve control system.
GTHaus has a valve control. Just haven’t heard anything other than a video they put out with it on the rack. No drive by, etc.

Yep, saw that. Unfortunately it comes attached to a particularly expensive cat back system. Any chance they sell the valve control standalone and I’ve missed it?

Valvtronic has a universal fit muffler with valve control. I watched their video and apparently it fits 99% of the vehicles out there (not sure where the number comes from lol). Either way to seems to fit most applications.

Seems like ANY reputable muffler shop could add an in-line electronic cutout valve. Shouldn't be that hard.

Alright boys, here it is. First thought, amazing...very deep, videos do no justice! Zero rasp, nice n deep through rev range, 50% louder at WOT, and mild drone 2000-2500 RPM. With all windows up maybe 20% louder at WOT. Very pleased for $330 installed. This is the Flowmaster FlowFX, XPipe muff #72469.

Any pics of the inside of the OE muffler?

Sounds great. Wondering if upgrade to AWE from my current MRT Extreme is worth it. Startup sounds exactly the same, but you probably have less drone in the 1,900- 2200 rpm range. MRT-E doesn't have horrible drone like a foxbody 5.0 with a FlowMaster- but its still there in the background.

Same sound to me bro. All youre dealing with is high volume and rasp. Everyone is chasing that V8 rumble. Not gonna happen.

It’s an artwork with many of the engines today, especially I6s.

I’ve heard them sound V8 ish(Ford 200 and 300ci OHV ) and we all know how great a BMW can sound. We also know how shitty a Coyote can sound too.

Old school V8s regardless of make, always sounded good.

OHC vs OHV really changes how they sound and I still really don’t know why.

Either way, with newer engines…there’s a lot more science behind the sound than just slapping a muffler on it.

I see MRT has the mid pipe, is there a benefit to installing a full cat back vs mid pipe? The full cat backs available are not installing any different diameter piping correct? I think its noted some drone with the mid pipes, but also drone with several of the cutbacks exhausts systems available as well...although hard to get a true sound online, do the catback systems produce any different sound?

Truck already has a stock 3" system...no benefit to installing full system other than sound...but that can be achieved just by swapping or removing the muffler and valves. I'd argue swapping muffler for XPipe muffler sounds better too, most of the full systems or ones that straight pipe, sound farty.

This engine is an i6 just like in many of the bmws and they can sound really good. It'll never sound like a trx or v8 (something I think several people need to build a bridge and get over) . I dont think RAM is doing anything completely new or mind blowing with this engine, why cant we use the same setup some of the best sounding and well known BMW exhaust or down pipes are doing and apply that here? I dont run a fabrication so maybe im out of line... lol.

There is a choke point on the pipes coming directly off the cats. One of them is slightly flattened(ovaled) for fitment, this may be negligible as far as gains are concerned

Does their trail rated pipe sound similar but without the popping. I know we’re all different, but I don’t like the popping at all.

You only hear the popping during the first minute of a cold start. After that it’s gone. Under normal driving it sounds deep.
