I have Fat Cats on order and I was wondering about heat management as well. Im in Phoenix and its hot as hell, which traditionally would make me want to isolate the heat in the down pipe and transfer it to exhaust/tailpipe....keeping engine bay and firewall cooler.Just curious, what's the current temps in central CA and how about under hood temps with the new uncoated PSP pipes? I'm in Las vegas and going back and forth between doing coated of uncoated due to under hood temps
For heat management I considered jet hot coating or similar...or wrapping downpipe and hot side of turbo with those special made blankets and sleeves, such as Funk Motorsports.
However, I have heard of stock cats melting on RHO's...so wondering if I'll cook the cats if I transfer all heat through the turbo and downpipe straight to the cat. I understand the cat on Fat Cat should be better than stock quality and heat resistance, but there is likely a threshold...It would seem unrapped/coated are the best for cats despite bring worse for under hood heat.
Maybe the stock shields are the best balance point, as Fat Cat has mounting for stock upper heat shield. But I would need to know if stock shield would be tight to the downtube (if so may be better to coat or wrap) or if it just shields it with airflow between shield and downpipe (may be best of both worlds). Perfect world would be a heat shield tunnel around downpipe with 1-2" of space for airflow, so the heat is contained but not all forced into the cat....but not sure thats very practical in terms of install.
This is the perils of having downpipes on backorder... too much time to ponder without parts in hand, lol.
