Exhaust With High Flow PSP Downpipes

Go on Corsa’s website, the exhaust for the RHO doesn’t exist anymore. The page that has said coming soon is gone.

Swap back to my double H pipe today… cold Start is a little louder again, but the tone is definitely deeper as expected. At certain RPMs, it’s back to sounding a little bit more raspy even with the new mufflers I put in the back. Surprisingly the drone is much tamer than the ex pipe with the resonator. So I’m happy about that after hearing what DBallz did to his exhaust, I’m thinking of leaving the double H pipe and putting a dual in dual out Muffler close to where the stock Muffler was. I hate to cut up the Mbrp exhaust, but getting desperate at this point. Just debating if I should get a dual in dual out muffler thats straight through or has a x pipe in it. Any suggestions welcome.

The mufflers in Corsa’s kit supposedly have integrated x-pipes for whatever that’s worth.

I’m no expert but if you’re dealing with raspiness I would think integrated x pipes might help.

I’m more concerned with drone than raspiness honestly at this point I don’t care what it sounds like as long as my cold starts arent too loud and I don’t have freeway drone.

I’m a little confused with this thread - why are you spending so much time, and I assume money to get these downpipes to work to your likeness. It’s like you want downpipes without any of the attributes they add to a vehicle.

The added attribute they add is more power. There is no one out there with ether PSP or Rad downpipes that have detailed exhaust set ups showing how they truly sound in terms of cold start , idle and driving in terms of drone. The main selling point of these down pipes was always a quality part that adds power.

You're 100% correct. At the end of the day, people buy downpipes for the added power.

If I had to guess, one of the reasons Stainless Works still hasn't released their HO downpipes is because they're trying to get the drone under control. That's just my assumption though.

The reality is, whether you go with PSP, RAD, or anyone else, we're all dealing with the same issue. Once you replace the factory downpipes, you've changed the exhaust acoustics.

I've been experimenting with my own muffler designs to try and cut down on the drone, and I'm getting closer. But from everything I've tested so far, I don't think it's something that can be completely eliminated. The downpipes change the acoustics too much. I think the goal is to reduce the drone as much as possible without giving up the power that people are buying the downpipes for.

I'm not going to put something out just to say I have a product. I'll continue to test and tweak the design until happy with it and then I'll release them.

Thanks for chiming in ! And I agree with you part of me is thinking that the drone is just the nature of this motor and the firing order.

My initial hope for this thread was that other folk with downpipes would share their experiences with them and exhaust set ups so that we could all come up with the best route for exhaust possible.

Let me know when you come up with the muffler you end up going with.
 
I think DBallz probably has it dialed in as much as anybody. Don’t forget he said he left the clatter valves in because of the loud cold start. He wanted to tone it down.

The only other thing I think is worth trying is switching out the two resonators that he added by the spare tire for two small mufflers. Keep the set of resonators up by the H pipe.

I haven’t looked under a tungsten but from what I can see on the interweb they have a a set of small mufflers before the tail pipes. Same Ho motor much quieter than RHO. If they use the same stock downpipes, it would also stand to reason that you could switch to someone’s tungsten take off exhaust that they foolishly replaced. Unfortunately, I don’t think it would fit because I’m pretty sure it takes a different path

if you're trying to eliminate drone you need to attenuate that frequency range. Have you use a spectrum analyzer to identify the hertz of the drone?

That's a great starting point.

Understanding how loud and at what frequencies then you can address that specifically via a Helmholtz resonator or a j-pipe.

The downpipes with the oe exhaust have almost zero drone... but the cold starts are loud and part throttle inputs are loud.

I added resonators to calm down the cold starts and db's above 3k rpm.

I haven’t but I will start there if my next iteration doesn’t get me the desired results. What’s the size of the resonators you used ?
