Exhaust

I couldn’t have put up better vids. That cold start is damn near TRX status. Of course not quite as much depth but 1000% better than stock. And man does it ever wake up at WOT. That brrraaaapppp is also badass!

100% agreed with all this. It’s sounds really good. I also noticed a very slight burble when down shifting from 3rd (at around 2,400rpm) to 2nd. Have you noticed this? Want to make sure I wasn’t hearing things.. I’ll see if I hear it again tomorrow.

I haven’t, but I bet if you paddle shift it down you will.

Excuse my ignorance, but I’m genuinely curious on this.

Let’s say full systems are in the $2000 neighborhood and a new muffler is around $300. I assume there’s a big difference in installation costs, as well.

If someone is modifying purely for sound, can you achieve very similar results between these two options? I’m sure there’s some difference in performance attributed, but for many that’s probably a secondary goal. I’ve been under my truck and the exhaust routing is a masterpiece from the factory, it sure looks like they went to great lengths to design an equal length system. I’m trying to figure out what the additional cost is buying us.

Usually a cat back bolt on install is cheaper than a muffler. They don't have to cut and clamp/weld anything.

It's not going to close the gap by any means, but it should make it a bit smaller.

It was a straight bolt on and took 1 guy about 1 1/2 hrs. AWE did a great job with the design.

Well, I’m all in on 1.5-5hrs if it’s something I can DIY. That doesn’t concern me a lot.

Maybe my primary question comes down to difference in sound in the two end products. What is the cat back gaining over a muffler swap in terms of sound?

took me somewhere between 2-3 hours this weekend, no lift or jacks on my back.
Removal of stock was easier for me because I had the mrt trail rated already installed.
The connection to the cats was the biggest pain in the ass for me. I don't know who thought of that idea for gaskets, but they suck.
I have to go back under this weekend to make some adjustments, but overall all fairly easy. Just make sure you have something in hand to support the driverside muffler during install.

I put the truck in Baja/manual paddles with this AWE and it has nice burbles/crackles downshifting. I rarely heard anything with OEM exhaust. I tried to get a clip but this iPhone audio is terrible.

I see Amazon has a mic maybe I’ll get one

Wasn’t me. A 20 year old with a full lift. I was just sitting there watching and being his spiritual leader lol. But yea..1 1/2 hrs. Knocked it out.

thats awesome! If anyone is like me and can’t (or just won’t) do it yourself, it cost me $275. Well worth the money.

Also, these are phone vids. Phone mic can’t pick up the true sound. You can not go wrong. I don’t care which other exhaust that anyone else gets (enter your favorite company). It may sound great, but will absolutely not sound any better than this AWE.
Hey man. Thanks for putting out theses videos. Your truck sounds great. I'm curious how it sounds when you are accelerating at a moderate speed, say around town. I feel like stock sounds more like a hum lol. Does the AWE create more of a low end rumble? Thanks again

It’s pretty loud from around 2,000rpm through about 2,800rpm. Very deep tone. Does anyone recommend a microphone I can attach to the rear tow hooks to record from the iPhone?

Around town honestly is pretty quiet. Sounds better than factory, but you have to feed it a little before you hear it. IMHO I do t think you could ask for any better sounding inline 6. There are others out that aren’t by any means bad, just think the AWE is a tier above.

If people want to save a little the MRT does sound pretty good. I just needed more than the trail rated and instead of getting the extreme I just went with the AWE 0FG cat back with polished black tips. MRT does exactly what they say it will do and is not bad at all.

I'm still by far the most curious to hear the Magnaflow 12599 muffler swapped for the factory muffler. I have one sitting in my garage, just need to find the time to take it down to the muffler shop and get it welded in.

I’m hoping borla and corsa drop some teaser videos or something soon since their competition has options in the market to maybe get some people to hold off on a purchase
True, but nothing is all that great yet. Magnaflow probably has the best offering but who the hell is paying that?
