JB4 or Diablosport.. that is THE question

Today I got left on the side of the road (in the rain no less) - Sequence of events -- yesterday I got a new MF cat back exhaust and wanted to take some video. I did two runs in map2 (the truck has been in map2 constantly) and then I switched the CAT6 to map3 (for the 2nd time ever) -- then the truck literally stopped a minute later -- no throttle response whatsoever, although it's running (idle) just fine. I let it sit, switched back to map2, and then stock. I unplugged all CAT6 connections under the hood and dash (in the rain) and reconnected --- I disconnected the positive side of the battery -- no matter what I tried I got the same error messages (attached). I ended up calling Ram roadside assistance --- while they were on the way I fully removed the CAT6 system (not fun in the rain with way too many added zip ties) -- packed up all my personal things and sat waiting for the tow. When the tow arrived 20 min later, I started the truck -- and wouldn't you know it -- it revs. All warning lights on the dash also cleared. I drove the truck home with no further issue. (note my truck has just 1,100 miles on it)
So, I'm guessing this is a repeat issue now with my CAT6 -- the second time being much worse than the first loss of power but still moving (which has repeated 3x now). I'm unsure if the CAT6 has a program issue (its software is up to date), the truck does -- or both.... but it does seem like it's tied to the CAT6.
I had that same Issue towing with a trailer with the pedal commander. I had to leave the battery off for a while for the truck to be happy again. Completely lost throttle.

These fancy vehicles electronics are killin us.

I don't think these pedals like things being jumped into them to be honest it seems.

FWIW, the best I've got was 4.3 in map2 -- it seems to be pretty consistant in that range. I really like the feel of the extra boost but it's not worth this kind of drama. I may go pedal commander but will wait and see what DS says.
I've been really happy with the Roar Throttle Controller. Only had it on for about 500 miles or so, but it made the pedal nice and touchy.

I've reached out to DS to see what they think and will drive the truck stock for a while to see if the issue repeats. Unfortunate situation for sure.

Same thing happened to my buddy. Truck would go into gear but when given throttle, it would sit like the truck was in neutral. He removed his Cat6 about 2 months ago. Issue has never returned. So far DS has not acknowledged there could be an issue. Last time I asked him for an update he said DS tech told him all he can do is confirm he is running the latest software update (which he was).
This is pure speculation but if any signal is interrupted for the briefest period, our trucks freak out. I’ve had a couple of warning signs pop up never to return. Upon asking my local master tech, he said the tiniest interruption between modules throws an error. Perhaps the Cat6 can intermittently impede a signal from the pedal to the module and the truck goes into a “safe” mode. That’s my guess.
Hope you guys get it resolved.

which one is easier to take off when going to shop?

Maybe I worry too much, but 1 or even 2 of these experiences are enough to make me steer clear forever. Don't have time to be playing games like that.

Yea for sure, this doesn't give me a warm fuzzy whatsoever -- it's a serious safety and 'you might get stranded' issue. I'm just glad I had some tools in the truck to get things removed and put back......I got lucky all around -- the tow truck literally just pulled up and that would've been that. (you know a trip to the dealer is going to take a week of "we can't recreate the problem and we see no issues" - here's your truck minus a 1/2 tank of fuel)

For what it's worth, I had a similar issue when removing my cat6 for a dealer visit (or maybe it was putting it back on after, can't remember). Either way, long story short, I had zero throttle response no matter what I tried. So I disconnected the battery for 20min to let the truck's computer reset (not sure where I got the idea but I think probably Grok). Anyway, it worked just fine after that....

I also had an issue with remote start where it would start but would cut off after about 10 seconds. The tech at the dealer plugged into the obdii and reset the feature and it works fine now. My assumption is that with as many "computers" in these things now days sometimes it's like calling IT, "did you try restarting it?"... Sometimes the computer needs a restart/reset?

We are 7k miles now with DS…..ZERO issues.

Chris

I “think” the issues are connection issues or issues with the truck. There no way we have zero issues and other do with the EXACT same product.

Me too. I have a new Cat6 not installed. If lt was just me driving it, I’d take the risk. But most of the time it’s my wife.

Feel free to ignore my input 🤣😂🤣

Hahaha. I didn’t even get to your posts when I wrote that. To be fair, you have the most helpful input when it comes to the cat6 and you seem problem free.
