I figured, but with the not-so-great MPG figures I thought maybe some people were being cheap. LOL... I get 15 out of my 2023 Ram so I am hoping to get a little better, but that seems like it may be hit or miss. And with how much fun everyone is saying these are to drive I am guessing if I get over 10mpg I am winning. HAHA....93 for my girl![]()
Top Tier Premium 91 with boosters here. Coming up on 3k miles of city, hwy, freeway, mostly flat, always warm and some mountains, crawling, dirt n such and averaging now 11.5 MPG after thorough break-in. I have managed to get it up to 15 mpg on some stretches, but I always average out to 11.5 in the end.IS everyone running Premium octane?
Not even close. Granted, I only have 250 miles so far but I am averaging 12.3 mpg since birth (no reset) -- and that is driving it like granny. I am hoping it will improve to the 15 I expected. At this point, I am still questioning my decision to move forward over a used TRX. We shall see. My last truck (Tundra 5.7) was rated at 13/17 14 combined and pretty much always beat 14 mpg, even with a heavy foot and sustained highway travel at 85+mph on 35" tires. What I have noticed - - - and maybe its protective software tuning for the break-in period (?) - - is that this truck seldom uses seventh or eighth gear, even when coasting downhill at 70 mph. For whatever reason, it seems content to hang out in sixth gear -- spinning over 2,000 rpm. Almost like it has some grade-shifting tow/haul thing going on. It's super annoying. I finally slapped the shifter to the left into sport and forced an upshift from 6th to 8th - which calmed things down considerably. So from that point on, I have configured the cluster to always show me what gear I'm in at all times -- and I am still amazed at how/why it seems to hang onto lower gears even when coasting. -- And no, I did not have it in Sport Mode. I'm starting to think the lack of use of seventh and eighth gears is part of the reason why these trucks get such shitty mileage. That along with the constantly rotating drag of the front drive assembly -- which in my opinion was a stupid decision by FCA/Stelantis to not let us select true 2WD. I know, I know, nobody buys these trucks for fuel economy, but the option not to waste fuel would have been nice, particularly when we are paying for premium fuel.Just for clarity, is anyone actually getting 15mpg?
100% agree, though I don’t think my 2020 Ram gained more than 1mpg from initial break-in. I’m a little bit skeptical of 3-4mpg increases.I think the reviews for MPG should be restricted to those over 5k miles or something...these off the lot/break in numbers are going to get better. My '23 Raptor started at 13-14ish, now mid 17s. (93oct always) I'm going to be very happy if the RHO can get anywhere close to 14/15 avg.
Yeah mine does the same. Sometimes when I enter long freeway stretches I shift myself to 8th and most of time it will keep and try to get back to 8th.Biggest issue I found with the RHO is its reluctance to shift into 8th gear. Our Longhorn went into 8th before you knew it. I think it helped.

This is making me feel better about my TRX purchase! I was worried I would be getting 10 mpg - but I just peaked last night on the way home from work and I'm at 13.2 after about 220 miles on this tank! My commute is pretty ideal - 45-65mpg speed limit and not many lights - but pleasantly surprised by my mileage so far. I set the cruise at 75mpg on my way home with the truck and got 13.6 or 13.8 - can't recall.Top Tier Premium 91 with boosters here. I've kept my receipts, and tracked it better than I've ever done, and I have noticed some things that could trick me into thinking I had better MPG like:
-Sometimes it will click full and within 30 seconds it'll do it again but still has ~5gal left in her belly
-If I wait less than 40 seconds to top off it will generally take less than half gal more BUT if I wait over 40 seconds (40-50 seconds) then it will generally take 1-3 gallons more.
My computer mpg estimator is finally giving me accurate mpg data back but in the beginning it was waaaay off with readings of 14-16 mpg that were real-world 7-11. I now suspect I've never gotten much less than 11 but was tricked calculating 7's with early pump shut offs, but who knows.
-My truck will show or stay at full for an elongated period so it is easy to be 2-5 gal light and not know. The miles it takes to go from full to 3/4 is not near the miles it takes to get from 3/4 to 1/2, etc.
All things considered I do love the truck, minus the uconnect nonsense that needs updated or likely will be a warranty replacement here soon. I can live with 11.5 but would be far happier with 14mpg average for my adventure'n needs.
What’s your odometer reading? I assume it’s gotten better after break in?Just finished an 800-mile two day trip right at 15.0MPG.
This is with probably two hours of idling in traffic jams.
Something just shy of 3k.What’s your odometer reading? I assume it’s gotten better after break in?
I’m right at 13mpg average for this tank. 650ish miles on the odometer.
Im at 670ish and 13.5 mpg... Almost time for the 3rd tank of fuel... Im hoping to get in the 15's.... We will see if i can keep it out of sport and or baja mode...What’s your odometer reading? I assume it’s gotten better after break in?
