Installed the clamps on the clatter valves. Turned them 90° clockwise and clamped down. Doesn’t really seem any louder at an idol, but I haven’t done a cold start yet as it was already a little warm. Under moderate throttle it does seem to have a little more exhaust tone. I’m not sure I’m willing to call it a drone.

This mod is among the deepest I've heard.
I have a music studio and listen to these clips on speakers with subs...very accurate. This sounds very good in person.

Try CCW and see if it’s any different. From Mikey’s pic, it seems CCW is the way to go.

Try CCW and see if it’s any different. From Mikey’s pic, it seems CCW is the way to go.

You should look at Mikey’s pictures again. That would be more closed than open. Further proof is it won’t go 90 CCW

Pivot point is high on the pipe, only one way for those to swing.

Okay I got my flowmaster fx installed today. Took 3 hours at the shop. We tried to keep the valves and we were able to but one of them ended up touching the other pipe and getting stuck so it wouldn’t open. The sound was not good with the valves on. Raspy, not deep and honestly not much louder than stock. I told them to cut the valves off and weld in some straight tube and it made a huge difference. No raspiness and much deeper. I agree with @Mikey Swift. Much deeper but there’s definitely drone around 2000-2400 rpm. Overall I’m pretty happy with the turnout for $350. If you do this do not keep the valves in.

I was pleased to see that it settles outside of the 'drone zone' most of the time. When you wack that throttle though, sounds amazing, and you can really hear it bang off those shifts...LoudAF.

I am just using my Iphone 15 pro, I don't have any external mics so not sure how great it is. My stock exhaust had definitely gotten louder over time and it's interesting because I feel that the sound off shifts is not any louder than the stock exhaust at WOT. It sounds more mellow and not as farty. Low speed is definitely louder than stock. I didn't mind the stock exhaust at WOT but the sound is too high pitched anywhere else. This really deepens the sound.

The phones don't do it justice...there is so much more nuance they don't pick up. Sounds much better in person. 75 on the turnpike yesterday with music on...couldn't hear any drone.

Haha thanks glad you bit the bullet on this mod so I could follow. Yeah I’m happy with it! I am really curious what the mrt trail rated sounds like compared to this. Or the magnaflow universal muffler I bet that one’s pretty similar. I don’t really see how any of these $2000 cat backs could be much better than a muffler swap in terms of sound and even then most of the cat backs are just straight piped anyways. It isn’t a V8 but it’s got a nice smooth low end sound now that is more fitting to the truck.
