Digital Key Activation

Am I correct that you cannot do anything with the Digital Key unless you’re within 10’ or so of the truck?

Example, I can start the truck remotely with the Ram app no matter where I am because I pay the monthly subscription charge, but I cannot start the truck with the Digital Key unless I’m within ~10’ of it.

And if you turn the proximity wake up off I assume you need to hold the phone right next to the door handle to lock/inlock and over the charging pad to start it?

This is what I see in the Digital Key tile when I’m not within ~10’ of the truck.

My key works great, never have to take my phone out of my pocket and no fob. I sent the key to my wife since she drives the truck.

Yesterday woke up to a dead truck. My wife is stay at home. I’m thinking since I left her proximity option on and she’s downstairs and does laundry a lot (truck is in the garage near laundry/living rooms) it was waking up the truck constantly and drained the batteries.

Got it started, went to AutoZone to test batteries and they both showed good. I then drove 4.5 hours to Ouray and everything seems fine. Just a word of caution if your truck is in your garage or right outside your house and you have the proximity option on. I’d turn it off and just flip it on when you’re going out and about. On iPhone it takes 2 seconds to toggle on/off.

Thats because your truck and digital key keep communicating all day. The digital key is overrated. After 18 months, I finally got the digital key. Unpaired it in 24 hours. I never have to take my fob out of my pocket either. Lolol. And I carry my key card in my wallet as a back up when out of town. Works great.

Yup, proximity off now. I’ll keep the key as a backup for those infuriating times you walk out to get something and forget the fob lol.

There is some truth to this proximity issue, but I think it is getting exaggerated.

The truck is not actually turning on or starting every time your phone is nearby. The proximity feature may wake up a few modules and turn on the welcome lights when it detects your phone or key fob. That does use some battery, but the system is also designed to stop responding after repeated activations so it does not just keep waking the truck up indefinitely.

Ram says the phone-based Digital Key works when a compatible phone is within about five feet of the door. The manual also says the hands-free feature may temporarily shut itself off if the phone stays near the truck for an extended period.

As for the key card, I do not see how that would drain the battery. The card has no battery and does not constantly transmit a signal. You have to physically hold it against the driver’s door handle to unlock the truck and place it on the wireless charging pad to start it.

I would keep the card in my wallet as a backup and not worry about it. Unless your phone or key fob is sitting right next to the truck and the lights are constantly coming on, I would not assume proximity is automatically going to kill the battery.

I agree. I have android as well. Too glitchy for me at this point. I uninstalled it. I just use the key fob. It works flawless.

Without going back through 43 pages, where in my VIN for my '26 can I tell if my truck is digital key capable? I haven't heard anything or seen any emails; I wouldn't mind having the key in my wallet as a backup.

Not sure if there's a way to check by VIN you should be able to check on the window sticker though

I got the OTA update on my ‘26 lvl 1 RHO and have the tile on my phone app, but my truck’s digital key tile is a dim white color and when I open the app, it continues asking me to set up connected services which I already have. What a bummer because I really enjoy the phone as a key feature on my wife’s Navigator.

Got the tile last night. Currently also getting stuck with phone just "Connecting....". Tried every variation I could think of. Will keep trying day to day in case its a provisioning issue.

I got my first OTA update yesterday , but still no functionality of the phone as a key feature. Based on the attached publication, it may take up to three OTA updates and they’ll get pushed out once weekly. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I hope this works for you guys but if I’m being honest I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the OTA updates don’t wreck the Digital Key for those of us that have it working.

I got mine working. The trick for me was logging totally out of the Ram app, then logging back in. Then I put truck in Run mode without starting it and went through the pairing sequence, went flawlessly.

Click your heels 3 times and say stellantis. You j gotta wait for the car to update itself over the air/ u need to update ur key module from the TSB talked about earlier

How does one verify they have the correct TSB update applied? Had it at the dealer yesterday for oil change and the trailer brake recall. I also gave them the TSB number Patrick said I needed for this. I can't tell if they did it or not and haven't had the app update yet with the correct tile (just tried reinstalling app and still nothing yet). I'd like to be able to verify it was done before getting a hold of Patrick again.

The dealership is the only one who can see the firmware on the key module. You would need them to confirm what it is. My dealership had it as a line item on my service ticket. So I’d ask ur advisor if they did it
